Brodie Nero – Male Models Progress

2013 continues to be an incredible year for my personal and professional growth. Since my last article for MenStyleFashion, a lot has happened for me. There is a ton I have to thank my agent for. His patience, direction, genuine love and care for my well being has been a huge factor. Outside of my time with him, my own time has been focussed on my development as a model and my newly defined Brand (Brodie Nero BODY & STYLE). I have worked relentlessly in the gym and behind my desk sculpting my physique and tweaking my personal brand. -On a side note, I’ve gotten a ton of questions about my tattoos. Yes, they are real and they are one of a kind. One side is scripture writing I composed about the value of family and life itself. The other side is of my grandfather’s hands in the act of doing is favourite hobby before he passed away. The hands represent those of a hard working man who did all he had to do in order to be able to have the freedom to do what he wants.

The progress

This past summer I was in Miami visiting agencies who expressed interest in me. I also attended a few castings in South Beach that went really well. The next month I travelled to Manhattan, New York and did test shoots with reputable photographers for my portfolio. When it comes to your portfolio, you never want to cut corners. Never compensate the quality of your book’s images for cheap, quick-fast photo shoots. They say you are only as good as your worst image. Have strong photos in your book. The 3rd quarter of 2013 ended off with a trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Here I modelled for the Ocean Style Magazine fashion showcase weekend. I opened the show for several top designers from the Caribbean and abroad. We modelled for top buyers, actors, movie directors and other public figures.

 The Advice

If you’re considering becoming a model there a few things you have to align and focus on. Get your body on point; Structure and monitor the way you eat and train. Take care of yourself. Limit/Eliminate smoking and drinking as those things ‘wear’ your body quickly. Find yourself some great representation; Search online for your surrounding area’s model agencies and follow their procedure for submissions/auditions. Finally, DON’T GIVE UP. If this is something you really want, then do everything you can to make it happen.

Whether you are conscious of it or not you are your own personal brand. Be aware of that and be accountable. Get out there and be social. Be at the right places and make connections. Dress appropriately. If you convey to the public that you are a model/public figure, keep yourself aesthetically-fresh and fashion wise as well. Find yourself a cool consistent hairstyle/look. Form a style of dressing that appeals to you. Make it unique to some degree. I myself am a big fan of the leather pants, high cut boots and oversize shirt look right now. I absolutely LOVE how Kanye and Jay-z dress. I love to see these cape-like layers just ‘draping’ themselves over the human structure. Never underdress either when you go out! It’s always more safe to over dress. Have your suit tailored to fit you. Spend the extra money and don’t make the suit your’s by just buying it. Make it your’s by tailoring the fit to you as well.
