Daniel John Montagu Smith
My full name is Daniel John Montagu Smith and I am the guitarist and one of the songwriters/ founder members of the band, The Noisettes alongside my good friend Shingai Shoniwa who is lead singer and bassist.
Over the last 9 years, the Noisettes have released 3 albums and toured around quite a lot of the world. At this moment we are due to release a single in mid May entitled Rag Top Car and this will be followed by a deluxe edition of our 3rd album ‘Contact’ which will be a retrospective look at our career with unseen footage, photos and previously unheard songs!
What I Wore and Why?
And now, to talk briefly about style, at the Wellchild event where I met you at the Savoy Hotel in London on Thursday, I was wearing a vintage houndstooth tweed jacket designed by Hardy Amiss in the ’80s along with a black shirt and black bow-tie combo which I either got the idea from Marilyn Manson or Michael Jackson… Can’t really remember!
I generally like to browse through vintage shops (my favourite which is a new discovery is Bobby and Dandy in Hove where they specialize in stuff from between the ’30s and ’80s. The conditions of the clothes are really good and the price very competitive) and boutiques and mix stuff from there with new stuff from places like American Apparel and Topman. I love walking into American Apparel- it’s like going into a paint shop- they have every garment in pretty much every different colour and hue you can imagine- I also like Topman especially their personal shopper service in the Oxford street.
I am attracted to bold colours but also like to go monochrome sometimes which is at its best when contrasted with Shingai when she wears strong vibrant colours which is pretty much what we want for at Wellchild!
