Topman

It was MenStyleFashion first show of the day and it wasn’t just any show. TOPMAN is pretty much known for always getting it right. Looking back at its last seasons, we were genuinely impressed. The British label usually seems to be one step ahead and has thus remained relevant for years.

However, today we saw a different side of TOPMAN and it wasn’t so top at all. The show’s general mood was rather atmospheric and there were references to mystery and adventure in the clothes: Mostly black cowboy-style shirts were embellished with floral prints and worn with widely cut trousers. While the trousers were daring and hint at the turn from skinny to wide (which is long overdue if you ask us), the shirts had a slightly cheap feeling to them and overall didn’t convince. Silvery prints on thin fabrics and metallic belts appeared dated and – dare we say not very British.

All in all, TOPMAN seemed to have been a bit of a disappointment among most attendees we spoke to. To be fair, a label cannot always get it right and we have a good feeling they’re going to nail it next time around. Just please say goodbye to the metallic trend.
