Shearling Jacket

If we were to google some of the most fashionable famous men, this season they would all have been papped in autumn/winter’s biggest trend: the Shearling jacket. Being a key piece in the 70’s revival that first struck women’s wear, it’s no surprise that this statement looks then bled into men’s fashion.

Now I can already hear some of you saying ‘why would I want to look like an extra from Donnie Brasco?’ and I do see your point, but this is why it’s important to keep the Shearling jacket as your only vintage item – if you decide to wear one.

This brings us nicely onto our next point: proportions are very important to take into consideration when dressing. For example, as most Shearling jackets have large lapels, if you teamed this with a pullover it could make you seem weighty on top; however, equilibrium can be obtained by balancing out your bottom half with a straighter cut jean and boot.

Shearling works well with denim in both shirt and jean variety, but there is one point to bear in mind: wearing tops that form a v- line will create a distinctive ‘Boogie Nights’ feel. There is no doubt of Shearling’s fashionable status, and this is one time you can afford to be sheepish…no? Anybody? Tough crowd.
