For them, staying well groomed is not only part of their beauty but also from a hygiene perspective. However, it is the opposite for men. Boys are generally considered to be the messier of the two genders, for many men, it is cool to be messy. There is the man who does not shave for weeks and does not get their hair trimmed for months.

The breaking news is, dirty is no more the cool thing to do for men anymore. In the current era, men are expected to follow similar grooming standards as women. Women today are quickly turned off by men who do not look well kept, have an unkempt attire and look and smell bad. Unfortunately, most men are either too busy or too lazy to make regular trips to a stylist or a salon to stay well groomed.
However, it is a myth that you need to be dependent on a professional for your grooming needs. A basic grooming routine can be quickly followed at home, and you can feel fresh, crisp and presentable – which is all that you need.

The Right Kind of Shave

When you choose not to go under the blade for weeks and let your shave grow without taming it, you look more like a drug addict and less like a cool hunk. Just like it is important to groom your lawn and trim the grass to make it look presentable and neat, it is important to cut your facial hair and shape them to make them look neat and presentable.
At the same time, this does not mean that you shave to the point of almost peeling off a layer of your skin. Invest in a good razor and figure out how you can attain a precise shave without using too much blade. An automated shaver is an excellent way to strike a balance. Make sure to use a superb aftershave to help keep your skin clean, fresh and free of infection.

Smell Good

Smelling nice is a crucial part of your physical grooming. Since most men tend to spend a physically active routine, they generally sweat much more and therefore feel pretty bad, which puts off people around them. The most basic step of killing body odor is to use a good deodorant. And use it at regular intervals on a daily basis. It is also important that you understand that your regular perfume is not your deodorant. Scents are meant to add fragrance to your clothing to enhance the way you smell.
However, if your body is sweating and breathing, using the perfume will make the situation worse as the fragrance will mix with your body odor. On the other hand, a deodorant is essentially an antiperspirant that aims at killing body odours that are triggered due to sweat.

Trimmed Nails

You might not feel so, but people do notice if your nails are big, unshaped and worse if they have dirt filled inside. Make sure that you trim and file your nails on a weekly basis and keep them in shape so that they do not look dirty.

Photoshop Altered Models – Do We Need Warnings Signs? https://www.menstylefashion.com/photoshop-altered-models-do-we-need-warnings-signs/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/photoshop-altered-models-do-we-need-warnings-signs/#respond Sun, 18 Feb 2018 04:06:32 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=24268 Photoshop Altered Models – Do We Need Warnings Signs?

Magazine advertisements for alcohol and cigarettes come with warning labels. Now, some groups suggest that the celebrity and fashion photos should, too. A number of researchers and government regulators want photographs of movie stars and models to come with warnings that say the photos have been extensively altered with retouching software, such as Adobe Photoshop. The idea stems from scientific research that found that vulnerable consumers, particularly children and teens, might be fooled by the photos’ convincing illusions of perfection and suffer negative physical and mental health consequences as a result.

“Children and teens are particularly vulnerable to ‘perfect’ models of adults and children their age in the media,” Carolyn Landis.

So far, the most notable calls for Photoshop warning labels have come from Europe. Legislators in France, Britain and Norway have supported government efforts to slap warning labels on photos to alert consumers when they have been digitally altered.

How to Protect the Public

But in June, an American medical association denounced the doctoring of photographs, urging advertisers to work with child and teen health experts to set limits on Photo shopping. Two Dartmouth researchers have come up with a novel solution — a software tool that would detect how much fashion and beauty photographs have been altered, assigning them a rating from one (minimally altered) to five (starkly changed).

Photoshop enhanced Model

In general, contact with fashion and beauty magazines regarding their policies on retouching photographs or their thoughts on photo warning labels are not well received.

Research indicates that there is cause for worry about how celebrities and models, who appear forever trim and blemish-free, may affect how people view their own bodies. Several studies have linked manipulated photographs to eating disorders and other health problems. But psychologists say the most effective solution to helping children and vulnerable people develop healthy and realistic body images comes not from warning labels and photo-rating systems but from active communications and awareness.

Janis Rosenberg, a clinical psychologist said parents could start by not focusing too much attention on a child’s looks or appearance.

“Children are normally not aware of physical traits until their attention is brought to it,” Rosenberg said. “People who draw too much attention to beauty, comparing their children’s physical attributes and causing a child to be overly aware of physical traits can be a great source of anxiety for a child or even, in some cases, a vulnerable adult or teenage model.”

Photoshop enhanced model
Parents may be able to spot a few warning signs if their child is becoming overly fixated on looks. Kids may start making negative comments about their appearance, compare themselves unfavourably to others or begin restricting what they eat to avoid ´getting fat.´

While parents should certainly encourage children to eat a healthy diet, avoid oversize portions and exercise regularly, Landis said they can also restrict their comments about physical appearance in the light of what is healthy, not what looks attractive or desirable.

Numerology – Numbers Equals Your Future & Destiny https://www.menstylefashion.com/numerology-numbers-equals-your-future-destiny/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/numerology-numbers-equals-your-future-destiny/#respond Thu, 15 Feb 2018 05:45:55 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=72069 We travel for two reasons. The first is, of course, to discover new things and go off the beaten track in a way that, at its most extreme, is somehow transcendental. The second is more vulgar, but ultimately far more important. We travel in order to gorge ourselves to flood our sense with food and drink, music and sunshine. That’s why we demand to know which is the best place to buy food or the best place to find the finest stretch of sand.

Deep down we all desire to kick back, relax and overindulge ourselves. In this quiet time we also begin to reflect on work. What defines us and what consumes the endless amount of our personal time. We ask ourselves and begin to ponder. Where’s your spirit of adventure?

Where’s Your Spirit Of Adventure?

I find I am asking myself this more and more. It’s when I am getting a massage that my mind begins to wonder. I start to calculate in my mind the numerology formula of what I need to change in order to create a better life for both my family and me. I reflect on my date of birth and what it means? And if in some way the numbers are significant? I am trying to decode my future and destiny through a numerology report.

Discovering how my name is significant in being in tune with my inner self. Understanding the inner skills, that are required so I make the best possible choices for life. To learn the key tools of how to unlock my mind to reach my full potential both personally and within my work place. By developing insight, self-understanding and wisdom, I found that it’s much easier to discover solutions for the problems that challenge myself.

It’s for this reason in 2018, me and my family chose a huge life change. I understood by taking a numerologist approach, I had to create a different set of numbers that would change the course of my future destiny.

Numbers can actually guide you to greater self-knowledge by revealing hidden patterns and empowering you to make sustainable, positive choices for your life.

I am travelling around the globe because I understand what my DNA is made of and what my mind and soul need right now. I am seeking an adventurous life, because my spirit is demanding it. As the female voice for menswear since 2012,  travelling is now the key to my success.

Real Fur Versus Faux Fur – It’s Your Choice https://www.menstylefashion.com/real-fur-biodegrades-naturally-environmentally-friendly/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/real-fur-biodegrades-naturally-environmentally-friendly/#respond Thu, 15 Feb 2018 04:30:01 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=55033 Lets be clear, in no way does this article condone the use of real animal fur in fashion items. This feature is simply to make you good folks aware of some of the current fashion trends and suggest ideas to enhance your wardrobe and make you feel good.

Now before you start writing letters of complaint to ‘The Times’ please note that for reference terms within this article the word ‘Fur’ applies to fake or faux fur thus leaving the professionals to gad about the countryside in the real thing.

Faux fur is back in a big way from simple embellishment to full length Harpo Marx replicas that are now completely gender neutral and should help you feel confident wearing it but sadly won’t help with your piano playing unless you are already suitably gifted or perhaps a trainee starlet in waiting.

Let’s remember ‘real’ fur as such originated and evolved from a huntsman method of keeping warm to a luxurious yet controversial symbol of luxury for those that could afford it post world war two. As the demand waxed and waned fashion houses sensibly discovered that faux fur could be fun for all concerned especially if you are bold enough a guy to want to give off the rap star vibe.

Being a Minx

As Milan catwalks showed this season and other fashion weeks joined in the trend the popularity of faux fur continues unabated with trends percolating down to high street fashion chains. Once Joe or Josephine public got a handle on the fact that no animals are harmed, the moral and ethical implications of wear ability have vanished and confidence in the style have come to the fore that making affordability not so much of an issue.

This seasons faux fur is best in full length, full fat glamour style, which although initially intimidating, can and has been investigated by the houses of Milan to a great deal of accord from the press and knowing public alike seeing more than a passing trend and encouraging gentlemen with confidence and not necessarily bulging designer wallets to take the plunge on the streets of the world’s leading cities.

Leading By Design

Houses such as Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and Dior Homme all exhibited full faux furs that are credible. Homage in many areas of design has been paid to the more historical aspects of fur wearing amongst men, with more than a passing nod to the current media frenzy caused by the ever popular ‘Game Of Thrones’; Dolce & Gabbana going all other world kingdoms on our asses with crowns, faux fur sweaters and full length furs over gothic style prints.

For the more traditional ‘Ice Station Zebra’ look, faux fur paneled khaki and jacket hoods had been reworked by Dior Homme to give a fresh approach to this ever popular classic, giving a more luxurious rather than utilitarian feel to the garments that dressed down other tailored items with starlet Astrid Anderssen leading the pack with a visually stunning yellow parka with blue grey fake fur hood. Whatever the take, the exciting world of faux fur can raise its head as a respected new kid of the fashion world. Long may it continue.

Wedding – Top Tips When Proposing To Your Man https://www.menstylefashion.com/wedding-top-tips-proposing-man/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/wedding-top-tips-proposing-man/#respond Fri, 12 Jan 2018 00:41:13 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=71533 Ladies, gone are the day when you would just sit and wait for the guy to pop the question. It is very okay and in fact sweet for ladies to propose to their men. So, have you found your Mr. Right? Do you keep dropping some marry me hints and he doesn’t seem to get it? Well, it’s time you popped that question.

Wouldn’t it be nice to surprise the man of your dreams with the most romantic proposal of all time? The truth of the matter is, just because he is the guy doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t appreciate some romantic gestures. And because you want this marriage proposal to look and feel right just for him, you must plan and strategize. Make everything about it and the things he loves and by so doing, you will be planning a wedding sooner than later.

Well, ladies, here are 6 things that you must do when proposing to the man of your dreams. Read on and make that proposal perfect.

Be Sure You Want To Do This

Proposals are very important in one’s life; man or woman. When you decide to propose to your love, it means that you have decided to settle down with this person. So, if this is not the case for you, take it slow and just enjoy where your relationship is at the moment.

Get Him A Symbolic Gift

Engagement rings are the best symbolic gifts that anyone could ask for. Fortunately, there are so many options for you when it comes to choosing wedding bands for both men and women. However, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a ring. You can get your love a wrist watch    because it is considered the perfect jewellery piece for men.

Be Sensitive About His Feelings

Congratulations for choosing to take that step and deciding where your future lies. However, some men are too old fashioned and would not appreciate their ladies stealing the moment like this. So, whether he was planning to propose to you or not, let him know that it is very okay for him to ask you back whenever he is ready.

Talk To His Friends Or Family

If there are people who know your man better that you do, that would be his close friends and family. Therefore, it would be thoughtful of you to talk to them and let them know what is going on. As a matter of fact, they will be of great help when it comes to personalizing the proposal to your man’s liking.

Keep It Simple

Proposals should be about the two of you. Even when you bring in his closest friends and family, don’t forget to keep it simple but unique. Overdoing it would cause so much distraction and steal the moment. After all, what matters is what you are going to say. So think about why you want to spend the rest of your life with this man and plan what you will say to him before popping the question.

Catwalks – How Disconnected Are They For Menswear? https://www.menstylefashion.com/catwalks-disconnected-menswear/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/catwalks-disconnected-menswear/#respond Fri, 05 Jan 2018 02:03:47 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=69441 Why in the last two years has MenStyleFashion not attended a menswear fashion week around the globe? Should we with over 900,000 followers across all our social media dedicated for menswear, and recently ranked as the third best Mens Fashion blogs from thousands of top Mens Fashion blogs in the world.

Why did this image go viral? Why did it get over 7 million views, 750,000 comments and 18,000 shares?

Why Are We Not At Catwalks?

Over the last few months I have tried to find out what the most engaging post are for MenStyleFashion’s social media. And, it all comes down to the following. With over 155,000 people reached in less than 24 hours of Facebook, MenStyleFashion’s  followers are truly commanding how disconnected fashion weeks have become as seen by the comments. I am known as the female voice for menswear since 2011, therefore it is important I continue to understand what my followers are seeking regarding men’s fashion.

For me catwalks are not only the true back bone of where menswear fashion trends are heading and what my followers want to buy into.

On this occasion and on many occasions, my followers are hating what they are seeing on the runway shows for men in 2017. Why is it that the designers are looking after the shock effect more apposed to what men are wanting to buy into?

Your Fashion Opinion Please?

Yesterday late afternoon, I placed the following image on our Facebook. It’s important to understand that MenStyleFashion is a platform in where anyone, any fashion brand can promote, highlight and share their fashion opinion. All we simply do is ask the same question day in and day out. Your #fashion opinion please? #WeShowYouHow

So why has this image below attracted over 2000 negative comments and 257 shares, towards the designers way of showcasing his collection on the catwalk for 2017?  I encourage anyone to take the time to read the people’s reaction.

My passion since 2011, is to encourage any man, of any age to dress well and creatively. It is clear on this occasion, that this catwalk clearly demonstrates, the disconnection towards fashion weeks and what men and women are wanting to buy into regarding their personal style.

Fashion Photography – Confessions From A Male Model https://www.menstylefashion.com/fashion-shoots-things-to-avoid-be-aware-of/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/fashion-shoots-things-to-avoid-be-aware-of/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2017 04:56:33 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=19502 I am a very famous male model and have been for several years. I want to share my story and encourage any male or female model that. For without the camera what does this become?  Sexual abuse within the fashion industry, especially at the hands of a professional photographer. Should never be tolorated at the expense of anyone wanting to become a famous fashion model.

The Flight To Mexico

I abuse the endless supply of salted nuts and can’t stop adjusting my fully reclining seat. The flight from Mexico is long and I’m tired and I should probably sleep but I’m so excited about the massage button on the seat controls and the free nuts that I don’t even bother. I’m wearing a hoodie/sweatpant combo and the rich businessman who’s wearing a suit sat adjacent from me keeps looking at me funny. I want to flick a peanut in his face. The flight attendant in First is all “Yes Sir, Of course Sir” and I find his pomp contagious and begin to say stupid shit like ‘splendid’ as he brings me my fifth bowl of nuts. I’ve just made 30,000 grand.

Treat Me How I Deserve to Be

We land late, my bags come out first and the rich businessman who deserves nuts in his face eyes me with what I think is contempt. In arrivals a man holding my name on a whiteboard meets me and he guides me to his black Mercedes that ferries me to a generic looking studio. Lightly varnished wooden floors meet white painted brick walls. A colourama is in one corner lights being set up.

Some semi-naked girl struts in front of me taking up a pose against one of the walls. I’m told to dig in to breakfast, a massive spread of everything, but before I can even start on it I’m ferried into make up where I’m oiled, tanned four shades darker and then handled through to wardrobe.

I’m basically going to be naked all day.

What a surprise. I chat to the other model dude. He sounds like a sure as shit douchebag, a European with an American accent who tells me the sort of stuff that’s been going on already. ‘Dude I’ve been like grabbing her ass, practically fingering her, she’s had her tits in my face whist she’s been like grabbing on her pussy.’ Yep. That’s how douches talk.

The Sleazy Fashion Photographer

The photographer introduces himself, he’s a douche too, a sleazy, cocksure Yank who arms himself with two compacts, one in each hand, who fires off the flash on both cameras alternately as if he were in some shit action film and the cameras were his guns. The makeup artist hates him. The production team hate him. We all hate him. At one point in the shoot he even stops and crosses over to the speakers to turn up volume of a song about having a massive penis.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. What a dick.

I resume breakfast sitting in the studio, sort of not knowing where to look, as the babe with her breasts out writhes on a beat up leather sofa whilst the douche with a camera leans over her and snaps away saying things like, “Yeah, real sexy, bite your lip, yeah, now look at me like you love me.” What a fucking douche.

I barely eat any breakfast because I want to look ripped in the picture. The girl wraps herself in a gown. In front of my eyes she’s just been totally sexualized and I can’t help thinking she’s a total fuck minx who would eat me alive. She kinda scares me. But when I finally pluck up the courage to talk to her, distracting her from the book that hides her face by enquiring about its contents, I realise that she’s shyer than I am.

She’s young, inexperienced, impressionable, and she’s really really uncomfortable doing what she’s doing. Her makeup is plastered on as thick as card and I can tell that under it all she’s quite plain looking and really insecure. How could my perceptions have been so wrong? Oh how quick we are to judge. It feels to me like she’s hating this.

There is only one reason why you close the set?

In the next shot I’m spread on a couch like jam, arms over my head, all my muscles pushed out. After this me and the other dude model pose awkwardly on a steel ladder before he’s instructed to climb atop my shoulders, his cock digs into my neck…But this is fine… I’m prepared for this. I’ve had worse. What I’m not prepared for is what happens next. The dickhead with the cameras closes the set. Completely. Not even his assistant is allowed behind the white polyboards that completely annex off a section of the studio. The fragile girl is somewhere behind there too. Hidden from us all. The entire team sits outside waiting for them to come out the only thing we can see from behind the polyboards is the flash that at least signifies that some photos are being taken.

There is only one reason why you close the set: people are getting naked. I’ve never seen a photographer abolish even his first assistant from attending. I ask his assistant whether he does this often. Apparently he does. I begin to fear the worst, I begin to fear that the young 16 year old behind the screen is being taken advantage of and were all just sitting here waiting for it to stop. A weird silence settles over us, our glances convey what can’t be said, and the only thing that breaks the tension is the momentary flash that outlines the polyboard walls.

Walls That Block Us From Seeing With Our Own Eyes

Walls that block us from seeing with our own eyes what cannot be worse than the images our collective imagination hold. Gradually the flashes become more intermittent and eventually stop altogether. For a long awkward time, we all sit there and wait. Wait for the flash that justifies us sitting here.

I’m holding my breath waiting for the next one to come. The silence becomes sinister. I can no longer hold back my imagination that now sees the photographer breathing onto naked flesh, whispering explicit, his subject held in the inhumane-eye of the camera, the camera that justifies all of it.

For without the camera what does this become?

The girl steps out from the behind the polyboards. The photographer follows kicking his feet guiltily after a period of time that feels too considered. The girl leaves the studio without saying goodbye to anyone. Maybe nothing happened? May!

Don’t Be Afraid To Speak Out

Next week I fly to the Maldives for a week to shoot a campaign with a photographer who loves me, though he says “amazing” far too much. It’s one of the places I’ve always wanted to go. I know I’m lucky.

Am I deserving?

How about the girl who left without saying goodbye.

Was she?

Alpha Male Hormone – How To Boost It Naturally https://www.menstylefashion.com/alpha-male-hormone-boost-naturally/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/alpha-male-hormone-boost-naturally/#respond Tue, 19 Sep 2017 14:17:11 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=69288 What makes a man a man? Is it their beard? Is it their genitals or is it their libido? What distinguishes between a man and woman? Well, harmonically speaking the Testosterone hormone is what differentiates a man from a woman.  These hormones are responsible for many apart from reproduction like building muscles, keeping the fat away, increasing libido, etc but if these hormones go ashtray then it is a slippery slope ahead that will pose serious repercussions even leading to male infertility. So how can one boost the testosterone, the alpha male hormone naturally? Let’s try these do it yourself hacks that will regulate your hormone profile and help you live a normal life:

  • Strength exercise over cardio: Have a strong core and uplift those dumbles rather than running on a treadmill. Strength workout will help to boost the testosterone level by working on the muscles and lifting weights. If you can’t hit the gym buy dumbles and weights at a reasonable price from by discount codes and workout at home.
  • Regulate your sleep: Don’t be a night owl and sleep at a fixed time daily. Sleeping at the same time every day will help you relax the mind and helps the body to heal itself naturally. So rather than sleeping late and hitting the snooze button set a time and have a sound sleep of 7-8hours.
  • Ditch the stress: Stress is a silent killer that will take your life away every day making your intellect dull and making your hormones go on strike. Constant mental chewing does nothing constructive rather it makes the person negative and under confident. Hence, take some time off from your busy schedule and meditate to keep the stress under control.
  • Stop Smoking and Pot now: Smoking is the worst thing you can do to imbalance your hormones. Apart from destroying your lungs and kidneys; smoking has effects the hormone profile as well reducing the count which can lead to infertility.
  • Have a Nut Case: Nuts like almonds, groundnut, peanut, etc. will help to boost the testosterone level and reduce the side effects of diminished hormone level. These nuts are enriched with good fat and help to build muscle. Peanut butter is also good but make sure it is made of peanut and not full of sugar and bad fat.
  • Be Break free in the bedroom: If lately, you have been feeling that your sex life has become a routine and has lost its spunk then it’s time to stir things. Use kinky stuff or sex toys to add some fun; you can buy a gift discount code and gift it to your partner to suggest something naughty is on the way. Best way to boost the testosterone level is to have a healthy and passionate time with your partner. It will not only bring the couple closer, it is a natural stress buster and helps to increase the testosterone level.

To conclude, if you are suffering from low sperm count or your testosterone levels are low then these are some of the basic therapies that will help you shake things up and get back to normal. So fret not and pave your way towards a healthy living.

How Hollywood’s Superhero Movies Are Influencing Fashion https://www.menstylefashion.com/hollywoods-superhero-movies-influencing-fashion/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/hollywoods-superhero-movies-influencing-fashion/#respond Tue, 14 Mar 2017 17:18:12 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=60495 Recently, there has been one type of movie that has been dominating Hollywood: the superhero movie. Big movie studios, such as Disney and Warner Brothers, have gone all in with their development of comic book inspired movies, creating some of the most lucrative cinematic series in history.

The sprawling Marvel Universe seems to expand every year, with more big name heroes, and even bigger name actors, being added to the roster. It’s no surprise then that these movies garner huge media attention, creating some of the biggest hype that we’ve seen in cinema in recent years. This has lead to pop culture boom around comics and superheroes, with it being possible to get a strange, eclectic mix of superhero merchandise that’s produced alongside the movies.

But it doesn’t stop there. The sponsorship and product placement opportunities within these films are huge, especially within the entertainment and gaming industries. Marvel and DC characters appear regularly throughout online slots, as part of a greatest trend for thematic slots. There is indeed a strong trend for themed online slot games in the last few years, ranging from more general themes, such as Wild Gambler on Sun Bingo following the jungle/wild animal, to more specific offering such as Winnings of Oz inspired by the famous Wizard of Oz. In the case of superhero slots, they are inspired by their onscreen adventures, further cashing in on how popular the superhero genre has become. To put this in context, there are over 10 fully licensed Marvel slots already, with more in development. People just don’t seem to be able to get enough of their favorite heroes.

Since the fashion world has a long history of looking towards cinema for inspiration, so it’s no surprise that a movie genre this popular is producing some pretty noticeable fashion trends.

Back To Basics With Captain America

Captain America is, as the name suggests, an all-American hero. As his image is frozen in time from the 1940s to the modern day (a running joke throughout the Captain America and Avengers storylines), it makes sense that his style and choice of clothes are simple and classic.

Throughout the movie franchises, Cap can be seen donning Levi’s jeans, and usually a plain, crisp cotton t-shirt. It’s an all time classic look, that nods back to the fashion from the 1940s and 1950s, which have seen a rise in interest thanks to the increasing popularity of vintage clothing. Levi’s are the absolute epitome of every day, blue collar American clothing, and have been producing quality denim wear since the 19th Century, becoming one of the most recognizable jeans brands in the process. On the whole, the outfit suited the Steve Rodgers’ character perfectly.

Retro Comic Book Designs Are Proving Popular

The love of superheroes isn’t confined to movies. The recent big budget movies have also caused a spike in popularity of physical comic books, leading to their best sales in 20 years. This has had the knock-on effect of vintage comic book styles becoming popular, being used across apparel and accessories.

Japanese trendsetters Uniqlo have a produced a retro-inspired series of tees alongside Marvel, featuring classic characters like Hulk and Iron Man. On the other hand, DC have partnered with Converse, creators of one of America’s most iconic shoes, the Chuck Taylor. Together, they have produced a footwear series incorporating DC comic characters, including Batman, Superman and The Joker.

X-men and Wolverine Film Series

In some cases, comic heroes are reimagined for the screen

Sometimes, characters’ outfits do not make the transition to from paper to film well. Recently, comic films have taken a darker, moodier, more somber turn, leaving behind the camp, bright colors that appeared so often throughout the golden and silver ages in comics.

Naturally, some characters have had to ditch their classic attire to fit with this makeover. The clearest example of this is Wolverine. Classically depicted in a bright yellow and blue outfit, with knee-high boots, Wolverine’s appearance was toned down for the X-men and Wolverine film series. A simple Americana-inspired look was used instead: blue jeans, checked shirt, and a white tee or vest. This emphasised the rugged, rough and ready nature of Wolverine, but also helped to show that the combo of blue jeans and flannel check shirt, or work shirt, are a tried and tested fashion mainstay.
Superhero movies have contributed a lot to fashion in recent years. A key notion with a lot of the superheroes is the fact that during the day they’re an under the radar everyman. Their on screen clothing reflect this, drawing from simple, classic outfit choices, bringing them to the forefront of fashion again.

The collection as a whole is rich and varied – there are Poet shirts presented in robin’s egg blue and tracksuits in jewel tones complete with peplums and bishop sleeves which would satisfy even the most demanding of any Elizabethan sports fanatics. In addition to this, Palomo also has something to satisfy the dramatic disco diva with his covetable retro-inspired tear away denim flares. “I feel that boys need to discover different ways to wear clothes that we haven’t been able to wear up until now,”

His past seasons offerings saw him re-direct his normally ethereal, frill-forward fashion into more a more classically Elizabethan aesthetic: Ruffles cascaded out at the arm in a flowing form and blouses were sharply cropped with dipping, exposed shoulder panels. Palomo also gave the classic pinstripe suit a magical makeover, complete with a dipping décolletage which was heavily embroidered with flowers.
“I project what I desire and then I bring it to my own universe, like ‘let’s take it to a different level and fantasize a bit more in the way they dress,’ ” Palomo quoted. He gets inspiration from using mostly vintage materials, which are sourced from a small factory in Southern Spain´s Cordoba. “I work with materials that are usually used for womenswear. In the past, I have worked with a traditional haute couture fabric house that my seamstress has been using her entire career. She does the dressmaking for older and wealthy women. That is the most feminine aspect of my sewing.”

For Men Only

Even though his collections are aimed at the male market, Alejandro still receives many orders from buyers who are purchasing the pieces for female clients. (Show me a girl who wouldn’t want to try on a pair of those Pepto pink velvet flares or that fuchsia sequined jumpsuit.). Even though he perpetuates that his clothes are made for men, and designed with men’s bodies and proportions in mind, Palomo doesn´t seem to be phased by this; “It is erotic to be buying men’s clothes that are actually something really feminine. I think there is an attachment of mystery and excitement for women to buy men’s clothes.”  The label was recently invited by the CFDA to show at New York Men’s Fashion Week which will take place on the first week in February and will mark the start of Palomo´s international fashion journey.

Clifton Goldson -Tips for Year Round Fitness https://www.menstylefashion.com/clifton-goldson-tips-for-year-round-fitness/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/clifton-goldson-tips-for-year-round-fitness/#respond Wed, 04 Jan 2017 13:16:44 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=57704 It can prove difficult to make the most of a new gym membership without professional guidance. K West Hotel & Spa’s Personal Trainer, Clifton Goldson (who has trained the likes of Calum Best, Made in Chelsea’s Proudlock, and England and Southampton footballer Ryan Bertrand) has lent his top tips for achieving fitness goals and how best to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Don’t be Afraid of the Weights

What’s the secret to achieving the highly-desired dancer physique? Step off the cross trainer and pick up a pair of kettle bells. Whilst cardio develops overall fitness levels and stamina, using weights in compound exercises – such as squats and burpees – is the key to building long, lean muscle mass. Clifton advises high repetitions of back-to-back exercises using a low weight, followed by 30/60- second rest.

A Balanced Diet

80% of how we look is related to diet, so despite endless hours in the gym, you really are what you eat. Try to avoid fad diets and instead opt for a portion-controlled, balanced diet.

R & R: Rest and Rehabilitation

On a mission to get fit, overtraining may seem like a good idea, whether it’s a 2/3-hour session or two workouts a day. However, resting your body is just as important as exercising, as without rest progression can plateau. Schedule two rest days each week, and a full week out every three months. Getting a full 8-hour sleep each night will also ensure maximum results.

Too much of a good thing can be bad. The optimum amount of water needed to keep you fully hydrated is two litres, as much more than this can dilute sodium levels in the blood. Similarly, coffee has great health benefits as it helps speed up the metabolism and aids in fat-burning, but should be enjoyed only once a day.

Defining Targets and Measuring Results

Do you want to feel fitter? Or look great on the beach? Whatever your aim, it’s vital to set targets to stay motivated and to measure your progress. Steer clear of regularly using the weighing scales and instead quantify your progress using a measuring tape or before/after photos.

Enjoy the Process

Fitness is a 50% physical, 50% mental challenge, so it’s important to enjoy what you do. Wear comfortable gymwear as you’re more likely to exercise for longer, and don’t forget your headphones if music is your big motivator. Clifton advises to always finish your training with one exercise that you really love, as you will leave the gym feeling great on a post-workout high.

The $143 million purpose built centre sits comfortably next to the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris´s 16th arrondissement. Conceived by Frank Gehry, the construction aims to serve as both an art museum and cultural centre for the citizens of Paris and beyond which it has achieved to date with an unpredicted success. Whilst at Paris Fashion Week happening right now.  Gracie Opulanza and I took sometime out to explore this amazing building.

La Galerie

One year on and Louis Vuitton is yet again opening a second museum space but with slightly different credentials. ´La Galerie´ is a 6500 square foot private exhibition space which takes pride of place on the ancestral grounds of Louis Vuitton´s family estate in the northern suburb of Asnieres sur Seine. The former original family home and workshop buildings still function here for the production of their most exclusive ready to order items. An intimate inauguration which was hosted by the brand´s ´current face´ Michelle Williams showcased this deferential construction with fashion Professor Judith Clark acting as host, allowing its guests an intimate tour through its myriad of spaces with drinks and canapes on hand.

We wanted it to be perceived very much as a gallery intervention, it’s like an installation reflecting on the idea of exhibiting the Vuitton archive. It’s intended to be kind of slightly disruptive in that way – Judith Clark

The formidable space is carried over two floors which act as a retrospective home to some 400 objects and documents selected from the personal Vuitton archive which totals 26,000 articles and 165,000 documents. There are also many curiosities from the Vuitton families’ personal collection such as a pair of 17th century Venetian women´s platform shoes and a travel trunk from the courtier Paul Poiret.

La Galerie – Curiosities From Various Centuries

“Everything about this exhibition is in a way against unidirectional chronology, but instead around a kind of restless interpretation of the absolutely huge number of objects that they have,” Judith quoted in accordance with the companies philosophy. Here, all the lines and corners within the space have been carefully considered. An inspiration from a small interlocking Pateki puzzle (originally designed by Gaston Louis Vuitton in 1930´s) gave inspiration for the marquetry and structure of the poplar display cabinets which surround the experience. “I kind of thought, Ok, let’s build a Pateki where the walls never quite match, they never quite sit and so the tension between pieces is always there,” she described. All the bases, walls and details of the units are inlaid with marquetry designs that hint at calligraphic notions. “It’s the idea of using the material of the poplar that was always brought in for the trunks, but morphing it into shapes associated with design. And so instead of telling a story of savoir-faire, showing it,”

Poplar Lined Contemporary Interiors

The main ground floor space pays homage to a comprehensive selection of original trunks and toiletry sets, which sit juxtaposed next to product brochures, modern Vuitton correspondence and more current collection designs such as a bag designed last year by artist Cindy Sherman. “I think people underestimate how material was generated knowingly by them and how imaginative they were in terms of playing with the new shapes associated with travel, and so there’s a kind of wit,” said Clark, drawing attention to her favourite exhibit, a parchment full of rough, playful sketches from the early 1900´s which was softly lit and framed by the pale wood.

A Retrospective Of The Famous Louis Vuitton Trunk

The interior massing and space control of the museum conveys a spirit of drama. Its imposing arches formed of poplar span dramatically across the heritage laden space. On one side, there is a Keepall bag from 1930 that belonged to Gaston-Louis Vuitton. Then, next to it a Bowling Vanity Tuffetage bag from creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s autumn 2014 show.

It’s about fashion as fashion. It’s fashion as collaboration, and its fashion as the muses and owners and wearers associated with the luggage, so at a certain point, you’re kind of personifying it – Judith Clark

Peppered throughout the collection are clothing contributions from Louis Vuitton’s current and past creative directors; Nicolas Ghesquiere, Kim Jones and Marc Jacobs – in addition to period offerings from Jeanne Lanvin, Christian Dior and Madeleine Vionnet, acting as a snapshot through the houses various era´s. Towards the side of the foundation, a small scale model of the building is held up by a mannequin clad in Ghesquière’s recent designs, with film footage wrapped around the perimeter of it, paying tribute to the house’s history of collaborating with artists such as Richard Prince and Daniel Buren. “It’s about fashion as fashion. It’s fashion as collaboration, and it’s fashion as the muses and owners and wearers associated with the luggage, so at a certain point, you’re kind of personifying it,” Clark explained. It is clear that even though Vuitton remains essentially about the trunks, there is a kind of endurance to the dialogue between fashion and the house as well as the importance of the luggage.

Historical Fashion Contributions

Several pieces in the collection are easily identifiable from the 2012 Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibition held at Les Arts Decoratifs, which Judith attempted to look at with fresh eyes before affirming “I work predominantly as an academic. I think that was important to them, to have an outsider’s view, someone who could come in, research the archive and work slightly more experimentally around it,”

One of the instigations for having something more perpetual and conclusive was thanks to the original site. ¨People come here to see the maison de famille and the atelier. They kind of fall in love with the idea that this is the heart of the company and where all the special designs are made. It’s giving customers the context of the brands history and dedication to quality when they come and request their special commission. This is what they’re participating in, they hare helping to write the current and future history of the brand for the next generation.”

Embrace The Desire To Dress Well

One of the most powerfulist article written by Gracie was way back in 2013 after her first ever debut interview with David Gandy. Her message has been the same from the moment MenStyleFashion was created, Gracie encourages Men To Embrace The Desire To Dress Well.

In her personal blog she critiques up and coming fashion brands alongside her encounters from the world of fashion, sports and other events. In depth interviews from the people she encounters to the development of her personal style, her broad spectrum of coverage delights and excites. Publication favourites such as her controversial insights into the fashion industry and opinions reinforce that Gracie Opulanza is all about the personal relationship and the story behind the success of MenStyleFashion. Menswear for 2016 has come along way but Gracie says that in reality what men choose to wear on the streets tells us clearly that menswear has still along way to go yet.

Joseph Corre – A Child of the Jago https://www.menstylefashion.com/joseph-corre/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/joseph-corre/#respond Tue, 12 Jan 2016 14:59:47 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=41942 Just like its name ´A Child of the Jago´ is an acquired taste. Joseph Corre´s central London label has been manufacturing its Dandyish, Edwardian influenced attire since its opening in 2008. Unlike the Hipsters and Hoxtonites, this brand is not your typical London fashion fare by any imagination. If anything, Joe describes the recently relocated label as an ‘anti-brand’. A name sake of the brand is the bestselling book which recounts the brief life of Dicky Perrott, a child growing up in the ´Old Jago´, a fictionalisation of the ´Old Nichol´- a slum located between Shoreditch High Street and Bethnal Green Road in the East end of London.

In apparel terms, Joe is descended from fashion royalty. He’s the only child of Dame Vivienne Westwood (with Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren as his father). Clearly, fashion and rebellion are as much in his blood, as theirs. Having worked with Westwood for many years after leaving school at 16, he went on to found Agent Provocateur in 1994, with his then wife. After breaking loose from the company, his own project, A Child of the Jago, was born 7 years ago and has gone from strength to strength.

The Alternative London Look – A Child Of The Jago

Jago clothing is very distinctive. While the brand covers all ranges from t-shirts to womenswear, Joe considers men’s tailoring to be its hallmark (and suits are showpieces). From fly away lapels to striking juxtaposed patterns (featuring thick pinstripes alongside clashing tartans) you won’t be blending in to the crowd in one of these. Joe commented light-heartedly that ¨You don’t see people dressed like this on the Northern Line very often. Mainly, people after stage wear – pop stars, bands, TV people and the like.¨

The Charing Cross Road shop is a theatrically themed extravaganza for the clothes. Hats adorn a levitating rack above a staircase, there is Gothic-looking jewellery (thick silver bone-shaped rings with pearls are displayed in antique cabinets) and quirky details (a dressing room on the ground floor which opens with a heavy brass key) are normal place. Windows are elegantly gilded with the surrounding walls papered in yellowy sepia toned London maps adding to the urban / stylised / eccentricity of the space.

More Than A Label – An Idealism, A Philosophy & A Way Of Life

A Child of the Jago is a very ´London brand´. All of the cultural impressions come from Joe´s upbringing and everything he has grown up with (which not surprisingly includes his mother). ¨Not necessarily in the styling of the shop, but in terms of the clothing, I’ve definitely been influenced by her. She’s done everything, invented everything, from the tube dress, to every look you can think of, she’s done it ages ago. It’s impossible not to be influenced by that¨ he said melancholically.

I was tired of the global brand thing, opening new stores all over the world. I am very against mass consumption. It was my idea to make clothing using up what was left from the fashion industry – end of line cloths and high quality fabrics that were left on shelves. We make things in small runs, here in the UK – Joseph Corre

Corre recently said that he brought his brand to the West End because ¨people don’t go to the east end to spend¨. A piece of Jago does not come cheap either, with suits starting from £445, hats from £95 and printed T-shirts from £55. So, how does this contradict his anti-consumerist stance? ¨It’s consumerist to have a new outfit all the time. I want to make things that people will still be wearing in five years. If you buy fewer things that are better quality, then that’s better for everyone.¨ This is a philosophy that is rapidly becoming a trend within the ´ethical´ and ´anti-fast fashion´ brigade of present.

A Child Of The Jago – Traditional Values & Modern Styling

It’s consumerist to have a new outfit all the time. I want to make things that people will still be wearing in five years. If you buy fewer things that are better quality, then that’s better for everyone – Joseph Corre

Having controversially turned down an MBE in 2007 in protest at Tony Blair’s handling of the Iraq war (¨I was brought up with a healthy scepticism of the government.¨) It’s unsurprising that his anti-establishment streak extends to the world of fashion. ¨I don’t consider myself in fashion. Fashion is about trends. I have no interest in trends, nor interest in fashion weeks. I love clothing, and dressing up. It is about the quality of fabrics and making things.¨

What about the majority of people who consider the brand not to their taste? ¨Fuck ‘em. If people are scared to step out of the shadows and try something different and want to continue to be sheep, that’s up to them.¨ There’s something very familiar in Joe’s philosophy, isn´t there?

Unisex Clothing – What Does It Really Mean https://www.menstylefashion.com/unisex-clothing-what-does-it-really-mean/ https://www.menstylefashion.com/unisex-clothing-what-does-it-really-mean/#respond Sat, 09 Jan 2016 08:21:04 +0000 http://www.menstylefashion.com/?p=41578 unisex-clothing

It is that time of the year again wheret London is the epicentre of men’s fashion with the bi-annual show called London Collections: Men. MenStyleFashion was covering these events from 2013, a year from when the first dedicated men’s fashion show started in London. Before the start of this dedicated men’s event, we had to do with London Fashion week which would showcase some elements of men’s fashion but it was mainly an event for women’s fashion. This morning I sent out this tweet.

Should Women Be On a Men’s Catwalk

So after looking at the various catwalks of day 1, I got confused when I was looking at the Nasir Mazhar catwalk when I noticed women on the catwalk. Was this part of the bigger unisex trend we have been seeing for the past couple of years? To me it was clearly not. These were not women displaying unisex clothing, these women models were showing off their bras and mixing with men on the catwalk but still showcasing women’s fashion.

nasir-mazhar-3 nasir-mazhar-2 nasir-mazhar

It got me thinking why did the designer choose to do this? Was it to gain more news by being the first catwalk that had women models on a male fashion show? It worked as it got my attention as I am writing about it. Or was it due to budget constraints and why not show both male and female collections on the same catwalk? Maybe it is time for me to ask the designer what his thoughts were, but this was not a case of showcasing unisex clothing. I hope this is not a trend to be set or embraced as Men’s fashion is finally getting more and more dedicated events.

Paris is starting to host its own Men’s event in 11 days time and we also have smaller events like the TOM in Toronto which was covered by MenStyleFashion last year. This is a sign that men’s fashion is becoming more and more prominent.

Unisex Or Cross Dressing?

In December I walked into a Massimo Dutti store in Barcelona and I was going to look for some clothes for myself and I went to the women’s section. And after browsing for a while, I noticed menswear clothes and suddenly a lot of thoughts went through my mind. Was the floor that I was on a mixed section of both womenswear and menswear? I looked again and it clearly said mujer, Spanish for women. Then I looked at the sizes and this was menswear with women’s sizing.

Is this unisex clothing or is this cross dressing marketed in front of my eyes? The lines are blurring to me; this was cross dressing. I sent out the following tweet and it confirmed my thoughts that this was menswear on the female section of this store.

Cross Dressing Morphing Into Unisex

I don’t mind seeing menswear trends displayed at the women’s section. I myself like to wear men’s shirts as pyjamas or use men’s ties as accessories in my hair or use as a belt. I like this form of men’s trends making it into women’s fashion. I also noticed the reverse trend where female clothing is making it into the men’s world. Initially this is used by designers to create a shock factor and therefore be in the news like the J.W Anderson catwalk in 2013.

J.W. Anderson - London Collections: Men 2013 - 1

This is cross dressing where women’s clothing is worn by men.

This form of men wearing female clothes is less accepted than the other form of women wearing men’s clothes. And maybe in 10 to 20 year’s time, it will be more and more accepted and we see what is now called cross dressing being morphed into something that is called unisex. What defines unisex clothing now is the same type of clothing worn on both men and women that does not shock men.

In this case it is menswear what will be the trend setter of what is deemed unisex clothing. As for women wearing bras on a men’s fashion show, that has nothing to do with unisex. As for our readers, they are much more inspired by what is happening on the street than what is being showcased on the catwalk.
