W Amsterdam Hotel Review – Swim & Party With A View

Over the years MenStyleFashion has reviewed many W hotels around the globe. The W concept is all about a high-end party atmosphere. For guests, it is about showcasing their latest fashion trends and sharing their personal style on social media. Age has no boundaries at any of the W Hotels around the world. Here at W Amsterdam, situated near Dam Square, the message was clear from the onset, I had to get my festive heels on and enjoy my stay.

Two Unique Buildings

The W Amsterdam is split between two unique buildings, one of them is a former telephone exchange and the other is the former KAS bank. It makes for an interesting mix of designs between heritage and contemporary. In typical W naming these buildings are named W Exchange and W Bank.

The W Bank is the posh building of W Amsterdam with the Michelin starred Duchess restaurant and the Away Spa and views of the Single Canal. The W Exchange where I will be staying is the more party side of W Amsterdam with its W Lounge, Mr Porter restaurant and outdoor pool and terraces overlooking the Royal Palace.

W Lounge

I stayed at the W Exchange and the check-in was located on the sixth floor where all the action is located. From the moment I stepped out of the lift I was loving the decor and the views.  A very relaxed and friendly staff member greeted me with plenty of smiles and a glass of prosecco. What is impressive from the onset are the 360-degree rooftop views of Amsterdam. Even if you are not staying here, book yourself a rooftop drink at W Lounge. The seating is cosy and colourful and there is a vibrant atmosphere with locals that want to be seen. This hotel is full of energy and the party atmosphere is clear at night.

Rooftop Pool

The W Lounge features a distinctive set of stairs that flow into the bar and reminded me of the iconic steps of Dam Square on the streets below. Once I popped outside I got more amazing views of the Royal Palace. There is a narrow and shallow lap pool outside, called WET Deck and it is more being used as a photographic social media background than an actual pool for swimming, especially at night. However, as the weather was great I did take the opportunity to swim with a view.

It was wonderful to swim and soak up this palace view any time of the day. I liked seeing people do social media shots for their Instagram page, showing off their cocktails and dreams.

W Bank AWAY Spa

There are two buildings and opposite the W Exchange is the W Bank. This was a former bank and this historical building oozes glamour from the outside as it does inside. To access this building I needed to cross the busy streets of Amsterdam, which I thought was so much fun.

The AWAY Spa is situated in the former vault of the bank. I adored noticing the powerful vault doors that once held endless amounts of gold, jewels and cash.

When I stepped down into this vault I was in the most overwhelming wellness and spa atmosphere money can buy or experience. I was deep, deep AWAY from the hassle and bustle of life itself.  I would say this is the best indoor wetroom experience in Europe. With all the modern facilities on offer. The spa facilities include a sauna, steam room, fire bath, cold plunge pool, whirlpool and changing and relaxation areas.

I felt I was very far AWAY soaking in both hot and cold water. Steaming my stress away in the steam rooms, then plunging AWAY my tense muscles in the cold gold cauldron, to swimming and floating on my back listening to music whilst in the pool. I spent hours here and once I left, I felt I had been swept AWAY into the abyss of relaxation.

I was turning fifty that week, and this is was what every woman and man should do. Book an AWAY Spa Retreat as a celebration of making it to half a century.

Make sure you book your stay when checking in. It was such a well-earned treat after walking the streets of a very vibrant Amsterdam.

Cozy Exchange Guest Room King Atrium View

The cozy room is what it states is very cozy. Great for a business stopover for one to two guests only. This 20-25sqm Cozy Exchange Room has a very comfortable W signature bed with pillow-top mattress and luxurious 400-thread count sheets. The signature range of bliss amenities is exclusively packaged for W guests. I liked the bottles as I could use them again for recycling when travelling. The rain shower is cozy and overall the amenities are more than enough to have made my stay a relaxing one.

The unique part of this room is the Atrium view. I thought this was very different. At any time of the day, I could watch the culture of W Amsterdam, cycling past me. With one push of a button, I could shut them out with a decorative shutter. W Amsterdam always has art messages reminding me to have fun.

Breakfast

Breakfast is delivered to your room. I just had to download the app and the selection is endless. There was plenty of food to choose from. They knock on the door and you have to push your cart into your room due to social distancing rules. The food was served hot.

Conclusion

The staff were very on the ball, friendly and relaxed. The hotel atmosphere is super welcoming to its many guests. The rooftop views of Amsterdam are spectacular and the access to the cities attractions is why this hotel ticks all the boxes. W Amsterdam has lots to offer for celebrations and the food served is of a very high standard. To the people of Holland, booking a stay here is truly like going on a holiday right in the heart of Amsterdam. There are so many staycation options to choose from here at W Amsterdam.
