Hotel Otto is located in Berlin’s Western city centre known as Charlottenburg. It is a 10 minute walk to the Kurfürstendamm shopping street, which has all the high end designer shops. It is handy located only a 2 minute walk to the Ernst Reuter Platz U-Bahn station which gives you access to Berlin’s vast underground network. If you arrive by train like I did, the S-Bahn station, Savignyplatz is only a 5 minute walk away.
The hotel is privately owned and has 46 rooms and studios that offer you functional design at high levels of comfort. The hare animal is displayed throughout the hotel.
I stayed at the comfort room which is one level up from the standard room. The comfort rooms are between 24 and 36 m2 in size. Mine had a large double bed, a sofa, desk with flat screen TV, dressing room and bathroom with shower. The room was very functional in its design with the character coming from bright colours and designer lights. I liked the chair with funky print, it stood out and gave the room a nice interior designed edge. It was great to sit on and do some late night reading.
The bed linen was nice and the bed was very comfortable to sleep in. The room was large, bright with large windows, and it had plenty of storage for your luggage especially in the dressing room part. The bathroom with the shower was again very functional designed with great water pressure. What was a nice touch was the fair trade bathroom products.
The room was lacking any tea or coffee making facilities, the hotel makes up for it by offering a complementary buffet of cakes and drinks at its Etage 07 lounge from 2 pm till 9 pm.
There you find a variety of delicacies for every taste. Refreshing soft drinks to quench thirst, a beer to relax after work, fine wines to enjoy the evening, sparkling wine and champagne for that special moment. As a small snack in between sweet and fruity chocolate, cocoa coated soybeans, roasted salted nuts and seeds invite for moments of pleasure. So for any hot beverages you going to have to wait till 7am.
Between 2 pm – 9 pm Hotel Otto invites you to join its self-service buffet with handmade cakes and drinks in its lounge “Etage07”. As I arrived just after 2 Pm this was perfect for me to go up and enjoy the view of Berlin whilst enjoying a cake with a cup of tea. If the weather was any better I would have sat outside and enjoyed the roof terrace with views over Berlin.
Daily from 7 am – 11 pm you have the opportunity to get delicious snacks, as well as cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the reception. This is a real handy option if you have arrived late or don’t want to go out for drinks.
I loved the breakfast and I was surprised by the variety on offer for what is a small size hotel. Smoked salmon, quiche, scrambled eggs, good bread variety and sparkling wine are all included. The hotel supports Slow Food with the idea of a sustainable, regional food culture and conscious enjoyment.
Otto Hotel is the perfect place to chill especially if you’re here for short weekend stay or if you are on business. It’s has simple clean decors and rooms that make it feel like your at home. The small size of the hotel make you feel connected with the warm and friendly staff. It is good to see the use Fair Trade products in the bathroom and biological products in the kitchen. The location is perfect to explore everything west berlin has to offer on foot or you can take the close by u-Bahn station to see the rest of Berlin.
