Electric car publication DrivingElectric has today named the Porsche Taycan its Best Electrified Performance Car. This latest recognition underlines the benchmark credentials of the innovative, all-electric Taycan, which has also been reflected in the high interest from existing Porsche owners and car enthusiasts alike.
Since it first went on sale in September 2019, almost 11,000 examples of the Porsche Taycan have been sold worldwide. The UK is the Stuttgart company’s fourth-largest market, and here the attraction of the four-door, four-wheel drive sports car has also been very strong; in fact, the Taycan was the top-selling Porsche in the UK in November.

This latest accolade follows similar acclaim from the expert motoring writers at Sunday Times Driving, Top Gear magazine, GQ, Esquire, What Car? and Autocar.
The Taycan 4S generates up to 390 kW (530 PS) overboost power output. Equipped with the optional Performance Battery Plus, it delivers up to 420 kW (571 PS). In both variants, the Taycan 4S accelerates from a standing start to 62 mph in 4.0 seconds. The top speed is 155 mph where permitted. The WLTP Combined range is up to 254 miles with the standard Performance Battery (gross capacity 79.2 kWh) and up to 288 miles with the Performance Battery Plus (gross capacity 93.4 kWh). The maximum charging capacity (peak) is 225 kW (Performance Battery) or 270 kW (Performance Battery Plus).
Breathtaking acceleration, power delivery typical of a sports car and outstanding continuously available performance – the 4S model shares these strengths with its sister Taycan derivatives; the Turbo, with up to 500 kW (680 PS), and the Turbo S, with up to 560 kW (761 PS).
With two permanently excited synchronous electric motors with hairpin winding driving the front and rear wheels, and a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, the overall drive architecture of the Taycan features many technical innovations.
The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. This is a particular advantage for Taycan drivers on the road: in just over five minutes, the Performance Battery Plus can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the IONITY high-power charging network for a range of up to 62 miles (according to WLTP). The charging time for five to 80 per cent state of charge is 22.5 minutes under ideal conditions. Taycan drivers can comfortably charge their cars with up to 22 kW of alternating current (AC) at home or at public charging stations.
