The Overcoat

Two key events have happened in contemporary years to bring the overcoat back to the popularity it’s currently experiencing: men’s new found affection for a more formal look, with tailoring not having such a renaissance since the 80s mod era, and the revival of 80s sub-culture looks; think skin-heads, Crombie and DM footwear.

Overcoats are knee-length, but modern overcoats generally start at the bottom of your trouser pocket. Single and double-breasted styles are available, with camel tones helping drive the overcoat status as a must-have. Hybrid’s of the formal style has started to appear in recent times, with the deconstructed silhouette and the very 80’s Armarni look; as the saying goes, ‘nothing is new, only forgotten’.
