Tom Ford Presentation – London Collections Men

London Collections: Men - Jan 2013Tom Ford has long been considered the ‘it boy’ of fashion, so his London Collections: Men debut was obviously the hottest ticket in town. It was my honor to attend the 2013 RTW presentation at his chic London Design Studio. Journalists and editors, including those from British Vogue, were greeted by handsome, well-dressed men in the Tom Ford uniform. Once in the studio, I was presented with a lovely and refreshing cocktail, instantly making me feel at ease and the event feel intimate. All attendees lined up as Mr. Ford greeted and shook each of our hands in a manner that was respectable and touching.

Mr. Ford showed “tweed on check and check on check” during a presentation that was boyish and sharp with a Sixties feel. On the last day of London Collections: Men, the collection was filled with plaid and check suits, most of them three-piece and worn with roll neck sweaters instead of shirts. There was a refinement that was both classic and modern, a Tom Ford signature.

Also shown were cashmere sweaters paired with check trousers and loafers with beautiful socks. Mr. Ford mentioned, “when a man dashes, you see his socks, it’s the details.” For evening, tuxedo jackets in burnt orange and teal paired with waistcoats gave the classic tuxedo an unexpected twist. Then came the furs – an incredible overcoat Mr. Ford said would appeal to his Russian clientele and would be sure to make any one who hates the cold, a Tom Ford convert.

The After Party

At the uber swanky Loulou’s on Hertford Street, in the Mayfair section of London,  Tom Ford hosted a post fashion show party to celebrate his men’s wear collection.  As New York-based menswear designer Jason Enlow and I entered the beautiful space, Livia and Colin Firth (star of Ford’s movie A Single Man) walked in behind us and were pleasant as they walked down the beautiful spiral staircase for quick photos. Drinks were flowing and the people were beautiful.  I saw many celebrities enjoying the cocktails: Harry Styles, Lou Dalton, James Corden, Tom Hollander, Restoin Roitfeld and Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, Jessie J and Tinie Tempah, just to name a few.

I had the great pleasure to meet and chat with Richard Ralph and David Gandy, while the lovely Joanna Sykes introduced me to the Espresso Martini……
