But markets have a wide variety of emergency exit lights available, so you should choose the best emergency exit lights to be good for the staff and everyone. So If you’re not sure how to buy the best exit sign with battery, here are some best tips.

The Quality

The best quality of exit lights is another important factor you need to consider before buying them. Normally, they are made with anodized aluminium material, and they are very strong. Other metals are also used in making these lights, but aluminium is the most common and good one.

Waterproof

It’s always a good idea to choose waterproof exit lights. Normally, these exit lights may have to be installed in open space, and rain can damage them. They are also installed inside buildings so that they can be damaged even by water leaks. These things can affect those lights and may also be affected during emergencies.

Backup

Another important factor is backup; keep this thing in mind when you buy. Always keep in mind that the light which gives more battery backup should be considered. They may be a bit expensive, but it is very important to choose the best ones for the safety of staff and workers.

Brightness

Another important factor you need to consider while buying these emergency exit lights is their brightness. The brightness of the exit light should be good so that the exit path is very clear and people will be able to use the right direction easily. But if the brightness is low, it will not be possible for the people to see that emergency exit sign, especially in emergencies.

Mounting type and size

When buying an emergency exit light, keep in mind that it should be easy to install and mount. It is good to buy those exit lights, which are mounting wall types. These are the best because people can see them even from a distance. Along with the mounting type, the size of emergency exit lights should be big enough to be visible.

Batteries for Emergency Lights

All lighted emergency exit signs use a battery for powering. In continuous readiness and operations of the emergency light, these batteries are rechargeable.

There are two types of batteries are used :

  • Sealed lead-acid batteries
  • Nickel-cadmium batteries

Sealed lead-acid batteries are the oldest technology used in these emergency lights. They contain lead alloy plates immersed in acid. That’s why they are called lead acid. The acid breaks down dishes and produces the charging electrons. Recently lead-acid batteries have been improved to allow fully sealed units so that they don’t require more water to maintain the level of acid.

Nickel-cadmium batteries were the first that it does not require acid for recharge batteries. In a nickel-cadmium battery, the two metals are separated by a non-conductive layer, which causes the metals magnetically react with each other.

Typically, nickel-cadmium batteries are used in thermoplastic housing emergency lights, and lead-acid batteries are used in steel enclosure emergency lights.

[Note: As Per OSHA ( Occupational Safety and Health Administration ) guidelines, emergency light owners should perform regularly scheduled maintenance at monthly or annually intervals, according to the light’s working operation].
