Ovolo Hotel Woolloomooloo Sydney – Reviewed

It has been almost 13 years since I have visited Sydney Australia. The last time I was here was to celebrate new years eve 2007 with the massive fireworks displays on Sydney Harbour bridge.

And what better way to soak up one of the most spectacular harbour views by staying at Ovolo Hotel Woolloomooloo, which is only a 20 minute walk from the CBD. I decided to stroll from Circular Quay passing the famous Opera house and Sydney Harbour bridge via the gorgeous botanical gardens to finally arrive at Ovolo Hotel Woolloomooloo.

This heritage site has been transformed into a modern luxury stay right on the wharf. Ovolo Hotel prides itself on contemporary designs with multiple event spaces filled with vibrant colours, artworks and quirky guest rooms, 100 in total.

Take the time to explore Ovolo Hotel Woolloomooloo as its space is truly mind-blowing and perfect for a location photography shoot. In this hotel, I start to see more and more benefits of patterns. I liked how colours and patterns humanise a space and allow personality to come through.

Ovolo Hotel has such a great party atmosphere. It is the perfect location to host big events or just meeting up with good friends to catch up on life. The area is not the typical Sydney vibe which makes it more interesting to stay. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from right on the wharf with easy access to the hotel.

Alibi Wooloomooloo

Alibi is Sydney’s first cocktail bar and kitchen offering a 100% plant-based dining menu. It is an alternative for those who embrace a healthier lifestyle. The seating area is fun, funky and cosy. The food is well presented, and the atmosphere is fun. At 5:30 PM there is a happy hour option for guest offering  a free selection of local cocktails, beers, and wines.

The co-working space was perfect to meet new guests and for me to catch up on some work too. I thoroughly enjoyed this working vibe. This is all about celebrating of bespoke working places for guests to soak up and be inspired.

Alibi Breakfast

In the same location, breakfast is served and the selection of food is very healthy, fresh and well presented. If you have not opted for breakfast, I would highly recommend it. The staff was very accommodating, and my favourite eating was the selection of nuts and fruit bowls not often seen at hotels.

Suite

In true Ovolo fashion, I have a suite that offered unique artwork. Each suite offers a luscious design and endless colours. My room offered playful furniture and vivid wallpaper. Each suite has its own selected wallpaper theme to entertain guests. This is a hotel trend I am noticing more and which I adore.

Located on two floors overlooking the wharf my suite was very spacious.

The access to the free minibar with a variety of drinks made my stay all that much more inviting. The option for wine top-up at no extra costs is a first for me to experience in any hotel. The popcorn machine access was so much fun, I felt right at home.

I had the option of eating, drinking on the lower floor with access to a large TV and Alexa on-demand music. The same applied to the next floor. Perfect for couples who wanted their own space.

The large bed was cozy and has plenty of extra pillows for a nice snug sleep. I absolutely loved the artwork on the bed head very cool indeed. The lights generally in the suite gave a nice bang on the 1980’s trend for 2020.

Bathrooms

The two-level suite had two toilets which was very convenient. The on-suite bathroom had a massive bath with another toilet. The grey décor was a nice way for me to unplug from the technologically driven world.

To complete my journey of wellness. The access to OMG products was fun and very sustainable when it came to the environment. Less plastic waste is a nice touch to see here. I liked the names on the bottles too. Happy scrub a dub dubbing!

Sydney Shopping and Entertainment

Sydney is a rare city when it comes to shopping. I am a global shopper and have to say that Sydney Australia is one of the most exciting cities to wine, dine, party and shop.

The variety of individual boutiques is wonderful. The QVB and The Strand Arcade are my two favorite places to explore. From international designers to local Australian fashion it is endless.

There are boutiques here that won’t be found around the globe. Regarding entertainment I would highly recommend the Sydney Opera House and Ovolo hotel is literally 15 minute walk to it, strolling through the botanical gardens to get there. I had the opportunity to see my favourite pianist Peter Bence in action at the Sydney Opera House.

I also recommend just jumping on and off the local ferry’s and explore Sydney Harbour as a whole, it is truly amazing.

Conclusion

Ovolo Hotel Woolloomooloo staff were on the ball and very welcoming the service was excellent. This hotel is unique and a part of Sydney I would highly recommend staying.  The swimming pool and gym access are lovely too. This heritage building as a whole is stunning. On an architecture front, there is so much to learn, explore and photograph.

The overall ambiance here is fun for both young and old and certainly a rarity in hotel stays. When I was finished exploring the CBD. I looked forward to a coffee and a very affordable alfresco fine dining.

Thanks for a fabulous stay.
