The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride

The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride was founded in 2012. Inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit, It was decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles. That first ride brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities. The success of the event encouraged the organizers to consider how it could be used to support a worthy cause. And the rest, as they say, is stylishly-attired history.

This will be my first year riding in this event and I am beyond excited. My 2012 Harley Nightster will be slightly different than all these classic bikes, but I should be welcomed in with open arms. First and foremost this is a charity ride, and defeating Prostate Cancer is our number one goal.

I found this ride just like how I found most mustache and café racer combinations. The Internet. I was searching for some ideas of how to style myself and bike to match my own handlebar mustache and came across the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. While skimming through the “About” section on their website, I then learned it raised money for Prostate Cancer, the “male’s equivalent to Breast Cancer.”

I knew I had to join in and help raise some money. Cancer has affected myself and my family when my grandfather battled Colon Cancer.

My initial goal was $400. I thought this was a modest goal with me being so late in the game. Within a few days, I blew past that goal and reached well over $700. All thanks to my friends & family, as well as the wonderful people on the internet. As time went on, more funds came in and I am currently above $1050 raised. I have till September 28th to raise as much as I possibly can.
