While it’s relatively easy to concentrate on the main features of your capsule wardrobe attire and, with the thought of winter never far away, many of us give scant thought to a mainstay of the popular wardrobe, Outerwear. The last two seasons the fashion gods decreed that Outerwear had its crazier avantgarde side with creations in embroidered wear and even fur returning triumphantly and despite the crazier prices good quality was still the lynchpin of the profession with Gucci and Haider Ackermann throwing out the rule book this time around. Let’s take a closer look at the Outerwear phenomenon.
Turning On to the Runway
The statement coat has secretly always been desirable with Dries Van Noten‘s fur-collared paisley tearing up the rule book and Louis Vuitton and Kim Jones amazing marbled trench coats unable to keep a profile as low as Sam Spade if they tried! Whatever the look from retro to contemporary, the trick with all outerwear is having the confidence to convince your fellow peers you deserve to strut your stuff in it!
Living it loud
Somewhat subdued, ‘normal’ outerwear tends to sneak around keeping its conventional owners low profile, particularly on an equally grey winters morn; but designs by Raf Simons, Maison Margiela and Prada chucked away the rulebook with extended sleeves and oversized profiles making an entrance with some muted shading but its equally acceptable to scream embroidery and hippy-chic shades and if your nerve goes feel safe but secure in the wonderful traditional check print.
