What is KhamaiWare?
It all started in 2013 when Co-founder and CEO, Kyle Kim-E, spent his spring break in the beautiful country of Cambodia. He was surprised to learn that although Cambodia is home to 15 Million people, 25% of them live on $1.25 or less per day, 50% of rural Cambodia has no access to clean water and 75% of Cambodia’s annual deaths are attributed to unsafe water. Thats when Kyle met Savry Sok, who is a member of Cambodia’s Bible League and KhamaiWare’s Director of Operations. Together, they started a pending non-profit called Wells for Wellbeing. Since January of 2014, the organisation established 8 water wells, 31 water filters, and 1 water pond, which has provided clean water to over 800 Cambodians!
They both envisioned a better life for Cambodians and over time, the idea for KhamaiWare was born.
KhamaiWare [kuh-mai ware] is a socially-conscious business that employs Cambodians to proudly create and sell Cambodian-made products. Their mission is to empower people to rise above poverty and to provide clean, safe drinking water.
KhamaiWare create shoes in a variety of styles. For every pair of shoes sold, they will be giving a water filter to families in need! A pretty good incentive to buy some of these handmade shoes when they are released!
Their shoe selection process is divided into 5 simple steps:
- Pick a Design
2. Select Size
Their shoes are true to size. When choosing your size, stick with your normal shoe size. If you consider your feet to be wide, however, they recommend you going up a size. For example, if you’re a men’s 10 wide, we recommend selecting size 11. If for some reason your shoes don’t fit, they’ll be happy to exchange your shoes for a size that fits you perfectly!
3. Select Colour
4. Select Thread Colour
5. Select Lace Colour
Since they use leather laces for both of their loafers and boat shoes, you can choose laces in any of our leather colors (black, brown, blue, white, or red).
For their sneakers, you have a choice of the same colors (black, brown, blue, white, or red). These laces, however, are not leather since leather laces are too large.
To get KhamaiWare off the ground, a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign has been started. With only 24 days left of their campaign, they need your help to finish over the line. With the help of the Kickstarter campaign funds, they can have a successful launch of their unique product. Donations are as low as $1 for your support, where as higher donations will give you the opportunity to become one of the first owners of KhamaiWare shoes.
