Some celebrities are famous for more than one thing. Be it Arnold Schwarzenegger for being an actor as well as Governor of California or Lord Sugar for being a TV personality as well as a successful businessman, there are some famous personalities who have engaged in other sectors. Revered actor Ryan Reynolds, star of Marvel’s Deadpool series, and the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rob McElhenney have taken over Welsh non-league side Wrexham AFC with the view in making them a “global force” in years to come. Of course, neither Reynolds nor McElhenney have much experience when it comes to football, and one of the main reasons they appear to have purchased Wrexham is due to the ability to make a documentary which could net the club as much as £5m, plus the original £2m that the new owners pledged.
There are some celebrities who have had origins in other interesting careers but then gone into other areas where they’ve become more famous and recognisable. One such example is Victoria Coren-Mitchell who started out as a successful poker player and then entered the sphere of television presenting. She shot to fame thanks to becoming the first-ever female player to win both a televised professional tournament and a televised celebrity tournament. Once her television career had taken off as presenter of lateral thinking quiz show Only Connect, Coren-Mitchell appeared to take a small step back from the poker side, but became a two-time winner or the European Poker Tour back in 2014, taking home nearly £400,000 in cash and a £4000 watch. Combine that with the original EPT win back in 2006 and she’s won nearly £1 million from just 2 tournaments.
Of course, you don’t have to become famous to be able to access games such as poker.
