Some celebrities are famous for more than one thing. Be it Arnold Schwarzenegger for being an actor as well as Governor of California or Lord Sugar for being a TV personality as well as a successful businessman, there are some famous personalities who have engaged in other sectors. Here’s some of them.
One of the first examples that come to mind is former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher who, in the wake of the band’s split, set up the Pretty Green clothing brand. Unlike other celebrities who’ve tried their hand at creating personalised collections, the younger Gallagher managed to curate an entire range of clothes that hark back to the sixties and seventies with some of the style choices. For instance, there’s a heavy leaning on paisley and oddball colour combinations that really makes its style stand out from those at a similar price point.
Music to clothing might seem like a small jump, and it would be compared to the ventures that other celebrities have got involved in. Some have tried their hand at owning or being a director of a football club, such as the aforementioned Lord Sugar with Tottenham Hotspur, but there’s an even odder combo than that. Revered actor Ryan Reynolds, star of Marvel’s Deadpool series, and the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rob McElhenney have taken over Welsh non-league side Wrexham AFC with the view in making them a “global force” in years to come. Of course, neither Reynolds nor McElhenney have much experience when it comes to football, and one of the main reasons they appear to have purchased Wrexham is due to the ability to make a documentary which could net the club as much as £5m, plus the original £2m that the new owners pledged.
There are some celebrities who have had origins in other interesting careers but then gone into other areas where they’ve become more famous and recognisable. One such example is Victoria Coren-Mitchell who started out as a successful poker player and then entered the sphere of television presenting. She shot to fame thanks to becoming the first-ever female player to win both a televised professional tournament and a televised celebrity tournament. Once her television career had taken off as presenter of lateral thinking quiz show Only Connect, Coren-Mitchell appeared to take a small step back from the poker side, but became a two-time winner or the European Poker Tour back in 2014, taking home nearly £400,000 in cash and a £4000 watch. Combine that with the original EPT win back in 2006 and she’s won nearly £1 million from just 2 tournaments.
Of course, you don’t have to become famous to be able to access games such as poker. With the rise of the Internet, online casino websites have become increasingly popular as playing classic games such as blackjack and roulette has been made a lot easier. The popularity of such sites, as well as advances in web design and technology, has given them the opportunity to diversify their output with new content such as casino-related blog posts such as those discussing some of the best casino architecture. Such posts are designed to supplement the more traditional side to online casinos that will only get more popular as more players join.
In a bid to diversify their own output, some celebrities have taken the reins of other ideas or business ventures in order to make them even more successful. Adding another string to their bow has only helped their careers and it won’t be long until more of them decide to take the plunge.
