If the YMC (You Must Create) collection that sauntered down the hollow shell of the Old Sorting Office building on New Oxford Street is anything to go by, there’s going to be a wealth of berets parading along the streets of the British Isles next winter. Nearly every model that made the walk across the concrete floor adorned the famous headwear and with knitted patterned jumpers draped over shoulders and tapered trousers rolled high above the ankle, there was a great feeling that YMC took the concept of fashion and merged it seamlessly with the every-day, fashion savvy man.
Renowned for being a high-end brand favoured by shrewd street style kids and creative types, it was great to see a true British brand making the step up to LC:M, highlighting just how far street fashion has come in recent years. YMC have managed to integrate themselves between fashion and function, creating comfortable, ready-to-wear garments that play up to the male psyche without ever being too elaborate.
With typical winter colours – such as grey and black – mixed in with large tartan checks, geometric oranges and blues and wonderful shades of sea blues and greens, the collection for me proved to be one of the highlights of the week.
